Tadah – Olduino/Z

It’s not working perfectly yet but well enough to debug live from here on out. The pictures below show the board itself, the stack of the Z80 CPU card, Olduino/Z, Proto-shield, and LCD.  The image above is a simple but thrilling character display on the LCD.

The board replaces the Z80 Membership Card front panel of course. On the right is the serial/power connector and the reset button. Left of that is a NAND gate decoding the I/O addresses for the TPI3465V SPI hardware chip. Moving left and down are diodes connecting to /INT and IN7. Left again the little mess is an ATTINY10 which is programmed up to provide a 25us interrupt to the Z80 once a millisecond. At top and bottom of the board are the 30 pin headers that go down to the CPU card and the arduino headers for attaching shields.

The Z80’s output port bits 0-6 are mapped mostly onto the upper right header and input bits 0-5 are on the lower right where an arduino’s analog inputs would be. The upper left arduino header attaches to the SPI hardware: 4mhz clock, miso, mosi, and a chip select.  This is more or less how the olduino/1802 is connected and that has worked pretty well.

The code in the Z80 is written in C and essentially copied from the 1802 version. I’ve been trying to keep the top level code the same and just change the parts that drive the actual hardware.

Everything seems to hang together but there is something flaky afoot – it’s very sensitive to static on the input pins, causing the Z80 interrupt routine to start doing output to the parallel port which upsets my code. I have 100K puuldowns on the inputs but i may need something stronger. **UPDATE** I went into the monitor code and no-oped the places where it sends out 0x80 to clear the timer interrupt. That may have resolved the issue. **NOPE** – still flakey!

The schematic is a bit dangerous because it’s NOT what was used to produce the boards.  I’ve modified it to show how the attiny10 is connected, to add the 100K pulldowns, and to delete the attiny85 and icsp connector. It should be electrically true but…
